Blog #13
In Ester Entin's article "All Work and No Play: Why Your Kids Are More Anxious, Depressed" she talks about how children play time decreased, and the lack of play time has a negative outcome. According to Peter Gray a professor of physiology at Boston college "Since about 1955 ... children's free play has been continually declining, at least partly because adults have exerted ever-increasing control over children's activities". This shows that parents are the partial blame for the decrease in playtime. The article also tells how having free time and playing is more than just a break for children. Ester states "As children direct their own free play and solve the problems that come up, they must exert control over themselves and must, at times, accept restrictions on their own behavior and follow the rules if they want to be accepted and successful in the game." I think that schools should decrease school time to let children have a fair amount of play time to build their character for them to have a better and stable future.
