Blog #11

In Nicholas  Kristof's article "Do We Have the Courage to Stop This" he talks about how America isn't making any effort to reduce gun accidents and how we are focusing on the safety of things that that don't compare to the deaths cause guns. According to a public health specialist named David  Hemenway, "The predominant reason kids are are dying in massacres like this one is not that we have lunatics or criminals- all countries have them- but that we suffer from a political failure to regulate guns". This shows that guns are taking many lives everyday and the government isn't doing anything about it. The article also talks  about how  america is making efforts for safety for things that are not compared to the gun deaths. Kristof goes on to state "The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has five pages of regulations about ladders, while federal authorities shrug at serious curbs on firearms. Ladders kill around 300 Americans a year, and guns 30,000" I think guns should be banned because we gave people chances to have them but they are irresponsible. Having guns is also good though, for people who have license and need to protect themselves.

  1. You've done some good work summarizing and including details from the article, but you don't have enough of your own opinions and commentary. See parts 3 and 4 of the blog post format for examples of what I am looking for. 80
