In Hakeem Jeffries CNN article "Marijuana laws just creating criminals" he talks about how imprisonment for possession of marijuana is highly unfair and useless. In one part of the article Hakeem Jeffries talks on how arresting citizens in the state of New York  for having marijuana is unfair. In the far beginning of the article Jeffries states "A majority of these arrest only happen in a certain neighborhoods, indeed compounding the injustices unfair  is the fact that 88% of the people arrested are black and Latino." This study shows that it is unnecessary to put people behind bars that have marijuana because the majority of these people are only going to get right back out without having none of this put on their records. I think people who get arrested for this reason should go to jail but only depending on how much marijuana they have in their possession when there is stop and frisk. If there were to be someone who was stopped by the police and has over a pound of drugs they should get six months or above. Maybe if cops performed a stop and frisk on people who aren't colored, or Caucasian, more often people of color wont  stereotype what and who they are

  1. Some people are arguing that we shouldn't arrest people for Marijuana possession (small amounts) at all. What do you think?
